Background
Our client is a trusted care home developer focused on creating modern state of the art, purpose-built care facilities across the UK. With a growing portfolio of new-build sites, they recognised early on that robust, secure, and always-on IT infrastructure is not a luxury, it’s a clinical necessity.
Each site requires reliable connectivity to support critical systems such as Nursecall, access to patient information, and staff communications. The client brought us in as their trusted technology partner to design, plan, and implement IT infrastructure across multiple multi-floor care homes, starting from the ground up.
Our Approach
Our involvement begins early in the construction phase, collaborating closely with the site and project teams. We handle full network planning, including Wi-Fi survey and floor-by-floor design to ensure complete coverage for both staff and patient areas. We also work in structured phases, delivering pre-build planning, first-fix hardware installation, and second-fix final device setup.
Solutions Implemented
- Full Infrastructure Design & Planning:
We designed the IT infrastructure for multi-storey care homes, including network topology, equipment selection, fibre routing, power protection, and failover strategies—all tailored to support healthcare-specific operational needs. - UniFi Network Deployment with Redundancy:
Each site is built on a UniFi ecosystem, including:- UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM Pro) with backup unit
- UniFi RPS (Redundant Power System) for controller resilience
- Racked UPS units to maintain uptime during power loss
This ensures maximum availability for core services like Nursecall and internet access.
- Wi-Fi Survey & 3-Floor Planning:
We conducted wireless heatmaps and coverage surveys for all three floors of each home, preparing for the installation of up to 65 UniFi access points per site. This ensures blanket coverage for staff mobility, patient devices, and operational apps.

- Fibre Internet & 5G Automatic Failover:
Each site is provisioned with high-speed fibre internet, backed by a 5G failover connection with automatic switchover. This ensures uninterrupted access to digital records and systems critical to patient care. - Phased Site Implementation:
As construction progresses, we attend site for:- 1st Fix: Installation and testing of core equipment and cabling
- 2nd Fix: Connection of PCs, printers, VOIP phones, and staff terminals
This phased approach ensures seamless integration with the building timeline and clinical workflows.
